After a grueling 162-game regular season that went to the wire, the final 2021 MLB postseason spots have been decided. As the MLB returns to its traditional format of a 10-team postseason, made up of five teams apiece from the American League and the National League, following the coronavirus pandemic-enforced expansion to a 16-team postseason in 2020, four teams will contest the Wild Card Games to complete the bracket for the Division Series.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox ensured their places in the 2021 postseason on Sunday, setting up a meeting between the two sides in the American League Wild Card Game on Tuesday, 5 October. The winner of the single-game shootout will go on to play the 2020 World Series runners-up Tampa Bay Rays in the Division Series.

In the National League Wild Card Game, the St. Louis Cardinals will take on 2020 World Series champions the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, 6 October. The winner of that match-up will play the San Francisco Giants in the Division Series.
