Easter Day won’t be left with egg on his face in Big Town Moor Handicap

Promising Paul Nicholls chaser can resume winning ways at Doncaster

The big betting race of the day will be the Sky Bet Chase at Doncaster. This looks a great opportunity for Easter Day to get back to winning ways after a slightly disappointing return last month. Paul Nicholls’ runner was conceding race fitness that day (hadn’t run for a year) and is better judged on some of his efforts from last season. He beat subsequent RSA Chase winner O’ Faolains Boy before his novice campaign was cut prematurely short and that effort suggests he’s well handicapped here off 142. The ground will suit, he has run well at similar tracks and his trainer has won this twice in 7 years with other well fancied types.

The likes of If In Doubt , Royal Player and Medermit all have decent chances but none of them really stand out at the prices and if looking for a bigger priced selection to challenge the early favourite Grandads Horse could be worth a second look. Connections have admitted they’ve not only just learned how to ride the horse, but also that they thought he was a summer horse until two recent career bests in soft ground. That and his running style mean the handicapper probably hasn’t caught up with him yet. He won over course and distance last time and can follow the favourite home at a nice price.

Form With Silviniaco Conti The Best Guide To Solving Trappy BetBright Chase

The classier races at Cheltenham have only attracted small fields but there is a nice look about the betting for the BetBright Cup Chase. Dynaste looks likely to start favourite, he is 9/4 at the time of writing and that looks a very fair price. His form is not far behind that of Silviniaco Conti who is the strong favourite for the race that this lot are heading towards, the Gold Cup. He has 3lbs in hand of the next highest rated rival and is 6lb higher rated than the second favourite. The unique course is no problem for the 2014 Ryanair Chase winner and he should be even better over this trip. He’s arguably the most solid bet of the day and a more than fair price.

Many Clouds has certainly improved this season and he is very much respected here. Conditions hold no fears and he won the Hennessy Gold Cup last time like a horse really going places. The problem for backers is his form around Cheltenham – he’s never finished better than 9th in two attempts round Prestbury Park. That doesn’t tell the whole story though as was better than the bare form each time but jury is still out on this one at Cheltenham.

Smad Place and The Giant Bolster have some great form round here but the former is well held by Many Clouds on Hennessy form and the latter won a below par renewal of this last year. Black Theatre and certainly Theatre Guide don’t look good enough.

Proven Stamina Could Be Key To Cleeve Hurdle

Channel 4 also show the Cleeve Hurdle with the winner of this race likely to shorten for the World Hurdle. The second favourite for that race, Saphir De Rheu, is the favourite here but he is still having jumping problems (failed to complete in 2 of his last 3 races). That’s before you even consider his stamina (never won over this far and always been considered ‘speedy’).

Un Temps Pour Tout also has questions to answer in the stamina department so Cole Harden may be the answer. He has guaranteed stamina and ran well at this course last time despite racing over too short a trip. The penalty is a slight worry though against some progressive rivals.
